UNILAG workers on rampage over unpaid allowances


Academic activities were paralyzed at the University of Lagos on Thursday as Junior and senior staff unions of the institution protested against the management over unpaid accrued allowances. 

The workers, under the various unions of Non Academic Staff, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU barricaded the entrance gate of the university as they vowed not to work until their allowanced are paid.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Chairman of NASU, Mr. Ajibade Kehinde said that the management is owing each senior staff the sum of N1.18 million and every junior staff about N800, 000.

According to him, the allowances were accrued between 2007 and 2014, adding, “Each senior staff is to receive N30, 000 every month between 2007 and 2014 while each junior staff is to receive N15, 000 within the same period but the management has failed to pay.”
